The structure of the WEB program guides 6th graders to academic and social success by reducing the initial challenges of entering middle school. WEB creates an environment where 6th graders feel cared for and supported by creating an atmosphere free of bullying, intimidation, and fear while replacing it with support, connection, and a sense of comfort and belonging. With WEB students help students succeed by using older students as peer mentors for 6th graders. WEB leaders are members of the 8th grade class who go through extensive training to become positive role models, motivator, and teachers.
The Signs of Suicide Program teaches students how to identify the signs of depression and suicide in themselves and their peers. Through a video, guided discussion, and brief screening for depression, students are encouraged to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) when worried about themselves or a friend.
The WCMS School Counselors in partnership provide the SOS program each year.
Sources of Strength is a school-based, evidence-based suicide prevention program that uses peer leaders and adult advisors to promote hope, help, and strength within the school community. It focuses on building "protective factors" such as family, friends, and healthy activities to create a school culture where students feel supported and empowered to seek help and support others.
