This year we are hosting the 2nd North Texas Narrative Game Symposium as part of the NTX Game Studies Symposium and the G4C Gaming Tournament. If you would like to participate, use the tools and tutorial below to create a narrative-driven game and submit it using the form below.
The deadline to submit your game is April 15, 2022. Our judges will then evaluate your game and offer feedback. If you are one of the winners you will be notified via email. Winners and prizes will also be announced during the 2022 MakerCon on October 28-29, 2022.
The focus of the game must be narrative / storytelling.
There must be a ludic (gameplay) component.
Game must be complete and tell a story from start to finish.
Game must be functional (no crashes or bugs).
No “Adult”-themed games.
Make sure you have uploaded your game to Google Drive, Itch.IO, or another service.
Make sure your game does NOT have restricted access so that our judges can download them.
Winners will be announced during the 2022 North Texas MakerCon October 28-29 and notified via e-mail.
Twinery (free!) – A simple Interactive Fiction writing tool
Ren’Py (free!) – A Visual Novel engine used to create visual interactive fiction and VN
RPGMaker (paid) – An engine used to make retro-style role playing games.
Game Maker Studio 2 (free) – A game engine used in the creation of games like Undertale and Shovel Knight.
Adventure Game Studio (free) – A game engine used in the creation of Point-and-Click games like Kathy Rain and King’s Quest II.
Inform 7 (free) – An Interactive Fiction engine – more advanced than Twine but not as complex as C# or other coding languages.
