About the Sport.
Kickboxing is a dynamic, high intensity intermittent combat sport, which is at the root of many other disciplines, and requires complex skills and tactical inelegance.
There are many different styles of kickboxing, such as Muay Thai, American, European and Chinese San Shou, which have all developed independently from one another. However, the common components of each style are the use of a variety of full-contact punches and kicks to score points.
The aim of kickboxing is to use kicking and punching techniques to knock the opponent out, force the referee to stop the fight or to display superior skills in both defence and attack to win on the judge’s points cards.
Scoring works by the judges scoring each participant based on their performance in each round (just like boxing). Fights can be won by a knockout (KO), a technical knockout (TKO) or by higher points at the end of all rounds.
