QRA Annual Discussion Meeting 2027

The 2027 Quaternary Research Association (QRA) Annual Discussion Meeting is being hosted at Sheffield Hallam University.

The theme of the ADM this year is "Analogues in Time and Space".

Understanding environmental change requires the ability to place contemporary observations within broader spatial and temporal contexts. Through the Quaternary, Earth systems have experienced a range of climatic, ecological, and geomorphological states, providing valuable analogues that can help us understand past processes, interpret present-day observations, and anticipate future change. We welcome contributions relating to the broad theme of Analogues in Time and Space, including, but not limited to, the following areas;

• Identifying past climate and environmental analogues to inform future change.

• Spatial analogues and comparisons across regions, landscapes, and environmental settings.

• Integrating palaeo records, instrumental observations, and modelling approaches.

• Human-environmental interactions across different times and places.

• Assessing the strengths, limitations, and uncertainties associate with analogue approaches.

• How Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) can be embedded into Quaternary science through current good practice and future improvements.

We aim to bring together researchers from across the breadth of Quaternary Science to showcase developments in analytical techniques, proxy records, geomorphology, geochronology, and modelling. The meeting will provide a platform for interdisciplinary discussion, foster new collaborations, and explore how analogues in time and space ca be used to address key challenges in understanding environmental change from the past to the future. 

Abstract submission deadline is Friday 13th November 2026 at 11:59pm.

Registration will close on Friday 11th December 2026 at 12pm (midday).
