Be prepared for the street! This essential training combines Emergency Vehicle Operations for bike officers with patrol procedures, tactics, night operations, scenarios, and basic bike maintenance and on-the-road repairs. Learn to ride like a pro, avoid crashes, and use your bike to fool the bad guys every time. Off-road riding and bike-specific live-fire exercises may be added at the instructor's discretion.
When registering, use a good email address that you will check often, as updates and follow-up emails will be sent to that address. Remember, you must purchase, read, and bring a copy of "The Complete Guide to Public Safety Cycling, 3rd Ed." Also, participants must be physically prepared for the required training or risk being sent home. Students will also be sent home if bicycles and equipment aren't as required and outlined in the included IPMBA documents available through the online registration link.
Please note, this is not an E-bike course; however, such a class can be scheduled if requested, and enough interest exists. IPMBA recommends completing the Police Cyclist course with a traditional bicycle and then returning for the E-bike supplemental training.
This course is held primarily outdoors and includes a night ride typically completed on Wednesday evening (depending on the weather). Training includes range time and off-road trail familiarization, both of which are routinely noted by students as course highlights.
Cost: NC sworn law enforcement: $0, Out of State sworn law enforcement: $125.00 (Out of state students must contact our office to set up payment arrangements before the start of class)
Hotels/Lodging/Recommendations: We are happy to provide suggestions and options for those who are unfamiliar with our area. Feel free to contact our office should you need recommendations.
Course Requirements & Suggestions
Each student is expected to have a copy of the required cycling book and be physically prepared for the class (or risk being sent home).
Book: students will need to visit the following web link and purchase the course material. Each student must read this book ("The Complete Guide to Public Safety Cycling, 3rd Edition") before the first day of class. This is required to issue a PCC student ID number.
A list of desired courses. If you are enrolling the same group in multiple courses, you are welcome to include them in the same request.
