As we erect a new era of The Rebel Regiment it will be crucial that the ensemble unites as one. Thus, we must adopt a uniform approach to ensemble playing in order to deliver exceptional musical performances. Though there are many approaches to marching performance, they all share the ultimate goal of producing great sounds to perform great music. Our marching fundamentals and techniques are designed to establish the Rebel Regiment as a competitive marching ensemble in our area.
A great reputation for performance quality does not simply come from our supporters, rather, our reputation should be built through your hard work and dedication. It is your responsibility to this organization to achieve success that reaches far above what would be considered the average or norm. That begins with the willingness to sacrifice self-interest for the benefit of the group. Our “team” is only as strong as the loyalty of its members. A dedicated member of this ensemble exhibits these attributes:
A respect for the people that surround you.
A trust in both the staff and the members.
A dedicated effort towards everything you do. A desire and willingness to work hard.
A continued commitment to excellence.
These attributes, when observed and practiced daily, will become the basis for a formula for success that you can apply this year and for the rest of your life.
A great attitude must be coupled with a work ethic that approaches each step, note, rhythm, dynamic, and musical phrase with great precision and tenacity. Instead of becoming complacent with your current level of performance, expect a new, higher standard of yourself and those around you. At the end of every rehearsal, ask yourself, “What more could I have done to move better, play better, and make a bigger difference? Am I doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to become the best that I can be?” Your talent and passion for practice and performance can be communicated into an electrifying experience for the audience.
Take this opportunity to be a better musician, a better person, and a better member. No one can claim leaving this activity that they have unaffected in some way. Be open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. Great achievements in society and life come from a willingness to go beyond what we know and push ourselves to higher levels. Trust that we are all on the same path to greatness together as the 2017-2018 Rebel Regiment. Deal with diversity. Be positive in all situations, especially those in which you cannot control, and do more than learn the show and wear the uniform; make this season one you will remember for the rest of your life.
