What is the Specialist High Skills Major SHSM?
Specialist High Skills Major Programs (SHSM) are programs that allow students to customize their education (enrolling in major, focused credits, ie Business) and explore future careers by focusing their learning on an economic sectors while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Holy Trinity has FOUR SHSM programs that will allow students to focus on these specific areas.
Transportation/Technology – Mr. Balech
Arts & Culture (Drama, Music, Art) – Mr. Galante
Business – Mr. Finan
Environment – Mr. Joseph

When can I take or get involved in the SHSM Programs?
You can enroll in the program in Grade 11 or 12 by completing an application form. Start your research in Grade 9.
Why should I get involved with the SHSM Program?
Students gain sector-specific skills (Business, Technology, Art, Drama, Music) knowledge and training in the context of education and career/life planning activities that assist in planning and transition from Secondary School to apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace.
What will I learn from the SHSM Program? Who should get involved?
Students who want experiential learning and career exploration, reach ahead experiences, field trips, additional training programs.
Prepare students for the future
What will SHSM do for me?
It will help identify, explore and refine career goals and make informed decisions about my future.
