VW HISTORY

Volkswagen was first made under the guise of the peoples car. Having been founded by the German Labor Front, the ultimate goal was for more Germans to have their own car. At the time, only 1 in 50 Germans had a car, and Hitler wanted to change that. Hitler and the Nazis played a big part in the design of the first two logos of VW, with the first being reminiscent of a swastika. However, due to the fact that the Germans had just lost ww1 over a decade before this, their country was still very weakened economically. At the start of the second world war, all of the cars that were to be sold were never given to the families that purchased them through a government savings scheme. Over the next 80 years Volkswagen would carve for themselves a decent image, though not the best.
