The King Arthur Carrousel at Disneyland was built in 1922 by the Dentzel Carousel Company and operated at Toronto's Sunnyside Beach Park until 1955, when it was purchased by Walt Disney. Inspired by watching his daughters on a carousel at Griffith Park, Disney wanted a similar attraction for Disneyland, leading to the purchase and refurbishment of the old carousel. The ride opened at Disneyland on July 17, 1955, with figures from other carousels, particularly those on Coney Island added to create the 68 all-leaping, all-white horses seen today
