After Benny outruns The Beast, the crew realizes the dog isn’t mean — he’s just lonely. Mr. Mertle sees how kind the boys are and lets them visit the dog regularly. Benny gets recruited to a local league and invites the Sandlot kids to be his team’s support crew. Years later, the gang returns to the Sandlot — now cleaned up, with a memorial plaque to their epic summer. Benny signs with the Dodgers, and Smalls becomes a sports announcer, telling their story to a new generation.
