who the beast really is

In the movie "The Sandlot," "The Beast," the dog the kids fear, is actually a large, friendly English Mastiff named Hercules. The boys initially believe he is a vicious dog due to his size and the legend surrounding him, but he turns out to be a sweet, gentle creature. In fact, he even helps Smalls retrieve his baseball glove after Smalls has saved him from a chase scene.
