The Los Angeles Zoo's Tom Mankiewicz Conservation Carousel opened in 2011 and was named for the late screenwriter and zoo supporter Tom Mankiewicz.
Donated by Ann and Jerry Moss, the $2.5 million carousel features 66 unique, hand-carved animals from both the zoo's collection and other species, including endangered ones, to promote conservation.
The ride also includes a hand-painted mural and a soundtrack featuring classics from the Moss's A&M Records, aiming to blend art, entertainment, and education.
