The Jeep was created by the U.S. military in the middle of World War 2. 1940 to be specific. The US was seeking a lightweight 4 wheel drive vehicle for recon missions, and thus the Jeep was created. After the war ended the rights were sold to a different company and in 1947 the first commercial jeeps were created. But that was not all for wartime use. Western countries begun to create jeeps for their own defense, and the United States military has used Jeeps in Korea, Vietnam, the middle east and any other conflict since.
As said in the paragraph to the left, the first jeeps for recreational use were created in 1947, and the specific model name was the CJ-2A. In the 50s Jeeps started to be used more for off-roading and a whole movement arose from that. Throughout the next two decades not much changed for Jeep, but in the 80s the first four door models were created, expanding from the typical two seater car which had been the norm. The rest is history and millions of people throughout the world enjoy the comfort of their jeep. Also in recent history many different brands have expanded into Jeeps such as Ford with the ford bronco, and Mercedes with their luxury G-Wagon
