Destiny's Child, originally named "Girls' Tyme", was formed in 1997 in Houston, Texas. The group Girls' Tyme was made up of four girls: Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. After underground performing for years, the group signed to Columbia Records and decided to change their name to Destiny's Child. Destiny's Child was launched to mainstream recognition after the release of their second album, The Writings on the Wall. Despite their success, the group started having issues (internal conflict and legal issues). Roberson and Luckett attempted to get rid of the group's manager, Matthew Knowles. Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin soon replaced them (Franklin soon left, leaving the group a trio).
