The movie Back to the Future is about a teenager named Marty McFly who gets sent back from 1985 to 1955 in a DeLorean automobile made by eccentric scientist friend Emmett Brown (Doc). This accident alters the past and prevents Marty's father and mother from falling in love, threatening his existence. The teenager is forced to reconcile his parents, and somehow get back to the future. In 1985, the teenager lives in Hill Valley, California, with his depressed alcoholic mother, Lorraine; his older siblings, who are professional and social failures, and his meek father, George, who is bullied by his supervisor, Bill Tannen. After the protagonist fails a music audition, he confides his girlfriend, Jenifer Parker, that he fears becoming like his parents. The night he meets with his eccentric scientist friend, Emmet Brown (Doc), Doc unveils a time machine he built with a modified DeLorean, powered by plutonium he had managed to swindle. Later the people he had stolen the plutonium from had come after him and gunned him down. After this event, Marty flees with the time machine, and arrives to find himself in 1955, 30 years, before his current life. Throughout the story, the protagonist, Marty McFly continuously attempts to fix the past, and return to the future.
