The album was released in 2021 after more than three years of work, with the first single arriving in 2020. Keem produced the album himself and featured a number of other artists, including his cousin Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott. The album's sound is characterized by distorted beats, booming bass, and washed-out synths. It was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number five on the Billboard 200 and earning platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album's final single, "Family Ties", won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. Keem also collaborated with Kanye West on Donda in 2021 and Lamar on *Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers* in 2022, earning two more Grammy Award nominations for Album of the Year.Â
