Leadership can encompass a variety of areas that focus on using your knowledge, skills, personality and experience to positively influence practice.
Every practitioner has the capacity to lead and to develop effective leadership. A leader must be patient and embrace diversity to encourage ways of working which support all staff to promote high expectations of the service.
There is a direct link between good performance and effective leadership. Effective leadership improves opportunities for children and their families and promotes positive communication with all service users and the wider community.

Leadership and Management development toolkit for ELC staff – Education Scotland
This toolkit from Education Scotland brings together a range of resources, videos, case studies, training and continued professional learning opportunities available to support staff at every level across the Early Learning and Childcare sector.
It includes self-evaluation tools and tips for reflective practice, alongside tools to assist development and improvement. There is even a handy ‘Pathways’ resource from the Scottish Social Services Council to guide you throughout your journey.
