LGBTQ+ rights & support

EA LGBTQ+ Pride Group meets most Tuesday lunchtimes in Y01.

All are welcome to come along and enjoy a safe space to chat and discuss LGBTQ+ issues.

We respect all identities, genders & sexualities and are dedicated to ensuring Elgin Academy provides a safe environment for every pupil.

Students are welcome to bring their lunch and a friend or just come along on their own.

 We also run an LGBT Champions Group, who are currently working towards the Bronze LGBTQ+ Charter of Rights for Education accreditation, in collaboration with LGBT Youth Scotland. More information on this can be found in the brochure linked below:

LGBT Youth Scotland is a Scottish youth organisation dedicated to the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people from 13 to 25 year of age in Scotland. It was established in November 1989 as the Stonewall Youth Project by members of the LGBT community in Edinburgh.

No matter where you live, you can access TrevorSpace, a safe and secure social networking site for LGBTQ young people and their allies.

Mermaids is a British charity and advocacy organisation that supports gender variant and transgender youth. It also provides inclusion and diversity training. Mermaids was founded in 1995 by a group of parents of gender nonconforming children and became a charitable incorporated organisation in 2015.

Switchboard is the national LGBTQIA+ support line. For anyone, anywhere in the country, at any point in their journey. We can discuss anything related to sexuality and gender identity. Whether it’s sexual health, relationships or just the way you’re feeling. This is your space – to explore, talk and be truly heard.

Mind is a mental health charity in England and Wales. Founded in 1946 as the National Association for Mental Health, it celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf.
