My field is clay sculpture though I am also interested in multi-media, and painting/collage. I feel that clay has a physicality to it that I respond to on a non-analytical level. I love the ability to create form and texture with the material of clay, and also to create 'story' I love the work of other clay artists -- and all the possibilities that clay presents, through representation, or surface treatment, pure form, etc. I also love that clay can 'sit with' wood, and metal, with wire and brilliant color. I think I'm drawn to it in the way that it brings me back to my body and emotions. The feeling life. The life that sometimes gets shut out in our other worlds of making a living, cleaning one's house, walking one's dog, etc.
I am working towards creating a body of work that is cohesive and expresses something, and has a point of view. I think I can expand upon this once I see it -- so to speak. What do I want to make? Where do I want to go? To what purpose? Fortunately, I am retired and have the opportunity to pursue my creativity. I also enjoy making abstract art, and I aslo continue to write poetry. I received an MA in Creative Writing in 2008 from SFSU.
