Academic Success in the COVID-19 ERA

An Extraordinary Time

The social distancing campaign carried out across our society, a necessary measure for our collective health and safety, imposes special circumstances on our courses here at Canisius College. Plus, COVID-19's development is difficult to predict. Despite uncertainty, there are many steps you can do to prepare yourself, and happily these are excellent habits and practices to succeed academically in college, and professionally in your subsequent career. A big part of this is familiarizing yourself with web-based resources available to you as a Canisius student, but there are other things you should consider as well. Smart students in classroom or all-online courses develop time-management skills, good written communication skills, and a sense of commitment to their courses as learning communities.

In 2020-2021, our courses will be heavily dependent on the internet for communications, content, and activities. In your case, one or more of the following may apply:

  • You may have elected to take all your courses online.

  • You may have chosen to attend classroom sessions in courses where they are available.

  • If COVID-19 surges in Western New York, we may all be compelled to complete all courses online, without the benefit of campus classrooms.

In any case, this guide - along with the instructions provided by your Professors - will help you use web-based tools, spaces, and services in your classes at Canisius College.

Much of what you see linked here is also linked at www.canisius.edu/studenttech, the quick technology guide for students. That's a handy quick reference for technology made available by Canisius College for students.

Toward the end of this guide, you can test your knowledge of information technology at Canisius through a quick quiz! If you score 100% on it, you are entered to possibly win a $5.00 Tim Horton's Gift Card.
