First, please listen to Designing for disability: how video games become more accessible, linked below:
Ma, A., Wong, W., Bridges, C., & Concannon, K. (2024, April 23). Designing for disability: How video games become more accessible [Broadcast]. NPR. https://www.npr.org/2024/04/23/1197964005/the-indicator-from-planet-money-the-last-of-us-accessibility-gaming-04-23-2024
Then, look through the following accessibility resources (note: Game Accessibility Guidelines has a few different levels. I have linked to the "Basic" list, but feel free to explore the Intermediate and Advanced lists). Additionally, you do not need to read all of them. Just pick and choose a few points from each of the following resources that stand out to you and most interesting or important to you.
Accessible Player Experiences (APX). (n.d.). Accessible Games. Retrieved April 5, 2025, from https://accessible.games/accessible-player-experiences/
Game Accessibility Guidelines – A straightforward reference for inclusive game design. (n.d.). Retrieved April 5, 2025, from https://gameaccessibilityguidelines.com/basic/
Xbox. (2023, June 13). Xbox Accessibility Guidelines—Microsoft Game Dev. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/gaming/accessibility/guidelines
Additionally, feel free to take a look at the optional materials and works cited and pull information/resources from the articles/presentations/videos provided there.
Then, do either of the following:
Create a 5-10 minute video. Explain why accessibility is important in video games. Additionally, provide a synopsis of the particular points you found important and why they are important. How would you implement these points in your video game? Provide examples.
Create a poster and write a minimum 250 word description/essay. The poster should explain the importance of accessibility in video games using as few words as possible and also quickly describe the points that you found interesting/important. The description/essay should also provide examples how each of the points can be implemented in your game.
Please reply to a minimum of two of your fellow classmates' posts.
