What is a Digital Breakout EDU?

Digital Breakout EDU is an interactive learning activity that combines critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills by challenging participants to "break out" by solving a series of digital puzzles. Unlike traditional physical escape rooms, Digital Breakouts are conducted entirely online, with clues embedded in images, text, codes, and even hidden hyperlinks. There are multiple approaches to creating a digital breakout, ranging from basic tools like Google Forms and Google Sites to more interactive platforms such as Padlet and Canva. You can embed clues in images, use multimedia elements like videos and audio hints, or incorporate interactive maps and timelines for added engagement. Teachers and instructional specialists can design custom scenarios tied to subject content, where students apply knowledge to progress through each puzzle, creating a fun and immersive way to deepen learning. 🤖

How Do I Get Started?

If you and your students are new to digital escape rooms, I recommend trying one out as a class first so that you can experience it together while talking it through. Once your students get the hang of it, have them complete a breakout in groups and then move on to individual breakouts.

What Do I Use?

I recommend using a Google Site as a landing page and Google Form (response validation responses) for the locks. Take a look below of the different tools/websites I use to help with my locks.
