Dear Sapphire Families,
We are quickly winding down to the end of the year. Where does the time go?
If you have not heard the good news, Ms. Boriello had a baby girl, Lily on November 19. Mom and baby are doing just great. Ms. Boriello is expected back towards the end of January.
November saw the students participate in the PTA Fun Run. It was a huge success. The UPK hosted a Friendsgiving event, which was also a big hit. Kindergarten held "Turkey Day," which involved students moving from one Kindergarten class to another to participate in fun activities centered around turkeys. There was Turkey Bingo, Turkey Puppets, Turkey Patterns, Cornucopias, and several other arts and crafts activities.
The pictures of all the activities are below.
In December, we are looking forward to the UPK Polar Express, the Alpacas coming to visit, and Beth and Scott will be here again to lead the children in songs. The theme will be, "Holidays Around the World." The Kindergarten classes will be decorating gingerbread houses
On behalf of the staff of Sapphire Elementary, I wish all of you a very happy Winter Holiday. I hope you can take this time with family and friends and enjoy the season.
Warmly,
Dolores Terlecky
Sapphire Elementary School
As we head into the winter months, we are reminding all M-W families to please have arrangements in place for your child in the event of a 2-hour delay, early dismissal, or school closure, and to make sure your child is aware of these alternative plans.
SchoolMessenger is the district’s primary parent/guardian notification system. As always, parents and guardians may receive important notifications. If there is a change to the student schedule or if school is closed, we will notify families by 5 a.m. via email, phone, or text (if opted in; see instructions), based on preferences selected on the Parent/Student Portal. Information will also be posted on the district’s website, Facebook page, and Instagram account.
Stay warm and Happy December, Crusaders!
As of August 20, 2024, School Messenger has replaced Swift K12 as the district’s parent notification system. As always, parents and guardians may receive important notifications from the district via email, phone call or text.
NEW WITH SM:
Parents and guardians must “OPT IN” to receive text messages via School Messenger. It’s easy and quick! Please take care of it right away!
How to OPT IN to receive text messages:
Text “Y” to the number: 67587 from the phone number you have registered to your Student’s Profile as a contact.
You will receive a text message confirming you have registered to receive text notifications: “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.”
Please note: If you DO NOT “OPT IN” for text notifications, you will NOT receive text notifications. You will only receive phone calls or emails. We encourage you to make your selection as soon as possible to ensure smooth communication with no interruptions.

All students enrolled at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch in school at no charge to your household each day of the 2025-2026 school year.
All students will be able to participate in these meal programs on the first day of school without having to pay a fee or submit an application. All schools provide a breakfast program for students upon entry into school and a lunch program for students in the cafeteria.
School meal programs offer breakfast and lunch meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards, aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and are planned with student preferences in mind. If packing food from home, students can add to their home brought lunch at no cost by choosing at least three of the five items offered, (e.g., low fat milk, proteins, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits), one of which must be a vegetable or fruit. We invite students to show their support for their school food service program through participation.

This is our gratitude turkey. Students wrote the things for which they are grateful. As last year, the majority of the students were grateful for their families.
We thank the Lions Club for coming to Sapphire on November 17th and helping our students. They screened over 180 students for vision and made many referrals to the parents for follow-up visits with a doctor. This is an outstanding service they do for schools and we are very grateful.
🏃 Fun Run! 🏃
The students participated in the PTA fun run to raise donations. It was a beautiful day for getting some exercise.
