Dear Central Valley Families,
We had many highlights during the month of November including Election Day, Veteran's Day, Parent Teacher Conferences, and our PTA sponsored Fall Book Fair. Please enjoy some of the pictures at the bottom of this newsletter that were captured during the month of November.
The following items are scheduled during the month of December: Winter Concerts Grades 3-5, the beginning of the Second Trimester on 12/8, and Picture Retake Day on 12/9. Be on the lookout for additional information regarding December's events.
Finally, we want to remind families that during the winter season we try and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. Students should be prepared with warm clothing in the event we are able to get outdoors for recess and physical education.
On behalf of the staff at Central Valley Elementary School we would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.
Regards,
Michael Barone

New Entrants have a physical exam. A valid physical for this school year is one performed on
or after September 1st, 2024 or new entrants within 1 year prior to start date.
Additionally, per NYS law, we will be screening all 3rd & 5th grade & new entrant students'
vision and hearing if not done and documented on their current physical exam and we will be
screening all 5th grade female students for scoliosis if not documented on their most current
physical.

School Messenger Reminder (parents/guardians):
As of August 20, 2024, School Messenger has replaced Swift K12 as the district’s parent notification system. As always, parents and guardians may receive important notifications from the district via email, phone call or text.
NEW WITH SM:
Parents and guardians must “OPT IN” to receive text messages via School Messenger. It’s easy and quick! Please take care of it right away!
How to OPT IN to receive text messages:
Text “Y” to the number: 67587 from the phone number you have registered to your Student’s Profile as a contact.
You will receive a text message confirming you have registered to receive text notifications: “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.”
Please note: If you DO NOT “OPT IN” for text notifications, you will NOT receive text notifications. You will only receive phone calls or emails. We encourage you to make your selection as soon as possible to ensure smooth communication with no interruptions.
Free Meals - All Students 2025-2026 School Year Reminder
All students enrolled at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch in school at no charge to your household each day of the 2025-2026 school year.
All students will be able to participate in these meal programs on the first day of school without having to pay a fee or submit an application. All schools provide a breakfast program for students upon entry into school and a lunch program for students in the cafeteria.
School meal programs offer breakfast and lunch meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards, aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and are planned with student preferences in mind. If packing food from home, students can add to their home brought lunch at no cost by choosing at least three of the five items offered, (e.g., low fat milk, proteins, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits), one of which must be a vegetable or fruit. We invite students to show their support for their school food service program through participation.

PROTOCOLS FOR VISITORS TO SCHOOLS
Schools are a place of work and learning, and certain limits must be set for any visitation. Any visitations require principal or his/her designee approval.
The building principal or his/her designee is responsible for all persons in the building and on the grounds. For these reasons, the following rules apply to visitors to the schools:
Anyone who is not a regular staff member or student of the school will be considered a visitor. This includes any contractor or government official conducting professional or official business.
The Monroe-Woodbury School District uses a visitor management practice known as The Credential Exchange Program. The practice requires all visitors to enter the school at the main entrance where they will press the intercom button. Using the visitor intercom system, a Safety Officer or Meeter Greeter will engage each visitor from inside the school and ask the individual to state their purpose for visiting. When a legitimate purpose has been stated, the Safety Officer or Meeter Greeter will electronically grant access to the visitor and they will enter the inside of the school or vestibule. Upon approaching the Security Desk or vestibule, all visitors will follow the Credential Exchange Program.
The Credential Exchange Program requires all visitors to produce a valid Government Photograph ID, which will be vetted by the Safety Officer or Meeter Greeter through the VISITOR DATABASE. Once authorization is permitted, the Safety Officer or Meeter Greeter will take the printed-out visitor’s tag and insert it into the ID holder attached to a break away Orange Visitor Lanyard. The visitor will hang the Orange Lanyard around their neck and the Safety Officer or Meeter Greeter will maintain the visitor’s ID in the security booth or vestibule’s lock box. All visitors to the school must report to the main office upon entering the school.
Student visitors are not permitted during the school day or to functions not open to the public without advance approval from the principal.
Any unauthorized person on school property will be reported to the principal or his or her designee. Unauthorized persons will be asked to leave. The police may be called if the situation warrants. All visitors are expected to abide by the rules for public conduct on school property contained in our Code of Conduct.
Refer to individual school handbooks for additional information and requirements.
