The SWEAR program at MVRHS began in 2015 as a student led internship and senior project. A student partnered with CONNECT to End Violence and school counselor Amy Lilavois to build on what four students from Dover Sherborn High School created after learning that their friend was assaulted in college.
Those students organized a powerful assembly and began encouraging other young men to speak out. That spark became a movement. Since then, SWEAR has trained hundreds of students, most of whom identify as male, to take a stand against sexual assault, rape, and all forms of gender based violence.
“We talk about how many women were raped last year, not about how many men raped women.”
Jackson Katz
Being part of SWEAR means stepping into a new perspective, one that might feel unfamiliar but is rooted in empathy, growth, and awareness.
It means being willing to learn, to challenge assumptions, and to take meaningful action. It takes courage. It takes humility. Most men are good men. SWEAR exists to help those men become leaders in the movement to end gender based violence.
