How we started...

Started in 2016, Merrimack Valley’s Robotics Team has quickly become one of the key extracurriculars within our school. With two mentors and about 20 active members, team 6690, or roboPride, seeks to grow even more to include and educate even more people. After some prompting from mentors of other teams, such as team 5813 and team 1512, engineering/computer science teacher Jeffrey Dutton began to advertise the formation of the team in MVHS’s halls. Interested students joined, and roboPride was born.

With two co-captains, team 6690 did far better than we expected at our very first event in Revere, Massachusetts. After considering ourselves to be underdogs and just getting the hang of things, we became the leader of one of the alliances in the top 8. By the end of the season, we had competed in the district competition, and won the Highest Rookie Seed Award, Rookie All Star Award, and Rookie Inspiration Award. In the off-season, we focus on fundraising and coming up with ideas to enrich the community outreach portion of our program.

A main focus of the current team is to be student-driven.  Our team members do and figure out as much as possible on their own. We strive to enrich the team members’ skills and provide an interesting experience for all involved is the ultimate goal, not just to win awards and competitions.
