MOUNT VERNON SCHOOL DISTRICT
Practicum and
Intern Students Information
Placement of practicum and intern students are handled by the Personnel Department. Please direct all placement inquires to our department. Request will be forwarded to your building administrator for consideration and approval.
AGREEMENTS
School placement agreements must be filed with our department before a student intern can begin their assignment. All in-state colleges and universities are aware of this policy and have agreements on file with us. Please check with our department if you are hosting a student from an out-of-state school. We can verify if an agreement was completed.
PRACTICUM/INTERN APPLICATION
Practicum and interns must complete an application in the HRM+ Volunteer Application system https://mountvernonvolunteers.myschooldata.net/. The process includes the completion of the MVSD Intern Request Form (available in the HRM+ system: My Checklist/Long-term Visitor/Intern Requirements 'SCHOOL REQUEST FORM") that requires the mentor teacher and the building principal's signatures and uploaded to the application.
A new Intern request form must be completed each year, even if the practicum or intern completed one last year. We need the most up-to-date information on the student: assignment; mentoring teacher; duration of the placement and their daily schedule while on our campuses.
BACKGROUND CHECK
All interns must complete a background check (fingerprinting). Student interns from our in-state colleges will have their students complete a background check (fingerprinting) as part of their preparation to begin their practicums and internships. We will follow up with the student if this process has not been completed. Interns will not be allowed on the campus until this is completed.
If the student teacher requires network access, they must complete the Acceptable Use Policy before obtaining a district email account. The title of this section is the link to the online AUP.
At the conclusion of the slide show, the intern will be asked to provide their COMPLETE name and their PERSONAL email address
The IT Department will send them an email to their personal email address with additional instructions to complete the process to obtain their login and password
Contact the IT Help Desk (ext. 18324) if they do not receive a response at least two days following the completion of the AUP.
SUBBING IN THE DISTRICT
In some instances AND with the approval of the student teacher's university, a student teacher may sub for their mentor teacher. This process is not automatic and cannot be completed overnight.
Required steps for the Intern include:
Completed Intern application in HRM+
Establishing an e-cert account with OSPI
Obtaining pre-clearance
Issuance of a WA State Intern Substitute Certificate or Permit
Completing district and payroll forms
Meeting with our Substitute Coordinator Tina Ellison (360-428-6184 or extension #11303)
