School-based occupational therapy (OT) supports a student’s ability to participate in and access their educational program. OT may address skills related to fine motor development, handwriting, sensory regulation, self-care, classroom participation, and use of adaptive tools or supports within the school environment.
School-based physical therapy (PT) supports a student’s ability to safely access and participate in their educational environment. PT may address mobility, balance, strength, positioning, transfers, and use of adaptive equipment within the school setting.
School-based OT/PT services support students in accessing and participating in their educational program. Services are provided when a student’s physical, motor, sensory, or functional needs significantly impact school participation and educational performance.
School-based OT/PT services support a student’s access to and participation in their educational program. Unlike outpatient or medical therapy, school-based services focus specifically on skills that impact school participation, educational performance, safety, and independence within the educational environment.

Many student needs can be supported through classroom strategies, accommodations, and school-wide supports without the need for occupational therapy or physical therapy services. Examples may include flexible seating, movement breaks, visual supports, adapted materials, sensory tools, handwriting supports, environmental modifications, and staff collaboration through MTSS/problem-solving teams.
