Pencil grasp: Functional vs. inefficient. A functional pencil grasp will improve a child's endurance when writing and will also improve their writing legibility. A functional grasp will allow the child to move the pencil across the paper using their fingers vs. their shoulder, forearm, or wrist.

It is important that children use good sitting posture while they draw and write to facilitate increased stability and control. This includes: feet flat on floor, back straight and upright, forearms resting on table top.
