Beyond the prizes, the contest helps strengthen research, critical thinking, and persuasive writing skills — abilities that will serve students in school and beyond. They can enter on their own, or teachers can assign the contest and earn rewards for participation.

The Quell Foundation Awareness Fund established the award to improve the care and treatment of people with mental health challenges.

Eligibility:
Applicants must currently be enrolled as a high school senior and be attending college by Fall 2026.
Applicants must be first-gen, meaning your parents did not complete a college or university degree.
Applicants do not need to be a U.S. citizen. DACA students or undocumented students must have a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to be eligible for this scholarship.
If awarded a scholarship, applicants may be required to submit either a 2025 or 2026 tax return.
Awarded scholars will be required to submit proof that they’ve been accepted into one or more colleges/universities before receiving the scholarship.

The NLHA Education Fund will offer four types of scholarships: one in recognition of one of the nation’s largest affordable rental housing providers and three in memory of three dedicated housing professionals and active NLHA members. Spouse applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours per semester, undergraduate only.
