Please enjoy a glimpse of mis clases. This is how you can learn about me. I love what I do, and am grateful every day for the chance to have learning take place and share my culture in the four walls of my classroom.
Getting students out of their seat and communicating is "muy trés" important! Here is a French 1 class playing telephone. They were trying to figure out which were the top 5 activities their partner picked from the list.
At the beginning of the year we made a craft related to weather. But most importantly, they could not use my supplies until they asked for the specific supply in French and of course using their French manners "s'il te plaît, et merci"
When Jacob came back form his six week Study abroad in Spain, he made a promotional presentation for Spanish IV students completely in Spanish.
This is what learning centers look like at (almost) its best. Sometime I am amazed. I look up from my small group, and I see almost all of the students totally engaged in the various activities. I love centers because it gives me a change to touch bases with each and every student to gauge their progress. In a normal teacher led class period I would not get to do this, but during learning centers, I get to talk to each and every student.
For our final exams, we had a Cultural Fair. Some presentations were multi-media. Students also practiced interpersonal skills during the final because both the spectator and the presenter had to ask questions.
This is one of the best entries in the academic interactive notebook I have ever had a student turn in. She truly captured the action and the feelings of the poem.
Students enjoy working on vocabulary, structure, and pronunciation by singing authentic songs. Karaoke style.
We got headphones from the Merrillville Education Foundation that allowed students to practice their speaking and listening.
We have time for brain breaks sometimes. As you can see almost 90% of students are engaged in this dance that had created community in the classroom. This group nailed the bicycle pyramid.
And of course we have to have engaging cultural field trips and fiestas. Here we are in Pilsen, at Lincoln Park Zoo, and at Purdue University Northwest in Westville, Indiana.
