The goal of this project was to create a connection between elders and younger generations in a fun environment in which we didn't only play games, we learned from one another.
Outcome
Each Friday we went across the street to Island Elderly Housing and gathered with some residents. We played games with them, trying to mix it up every week for everyone to enjoy. We brought treats spanning from homemade lemon bars, to a candy bowl at Halloween. A handful of seniors attended every Friday, some were influenced by their friends to come later in the year. The residents laughed and stayed in the community room talking to each other long after we had left, getting more interaction than prior to our visits.
-We made posters each Monday to hangup at the front of the IEH building.
-We developed our plan for the game each Friday and sometimes had to make trivia cards, pictionary cards, etc.
-We would sometimes make homemade treats or buy treats the day before our visit.
-We would go over for an hour during our leadership class block.
-Residents would joke with us, share their knowledge of different things they grew up with compared to us, and sometimes even start their own singalongs.
Goals for the Future
We see this project had some great influence on the seniors and we got a lot of feedback from them that they had a lot of fun and enjoyed their time spent as a whole.
-This project being dispersed to the other housing units in other towns.
-Finding new games to play
-Creating more flyers around the buidings for more exposure.
