Welcome to the Pacific High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (MCJROTC) webpage.
Pacific High School (PHS) has the only MCJROTC Program in Franklin County. Established in 2001, the 17-time Naval Honor School award winning program provides male and female cadets with a variety of unique learning experiences. The program is designed to assist students in becoming college and or career ready by developing leadership skills, self-discipline and physical fitness. Cadets, as JROTC students are called, receive academic instruction on leadership, civics and military history. Cadets also conduct physical training, learn military drill, and stand weekly uniform inspections. In addition to an elective credit, cadets will also receive a Physical Education credit toward high school graduation after they've completed at least two years in the program.
MCJROTC is not a military recruiting tool! There is no military obligation associated with MCJROTC and, nationwide, less than 2% of cadets choose to join the military after high school. Instead, MCJROTC seeks to develop character and leadership by emphasizing self-confidence, discipline, physical fitness, and citizenship within the individual cadet. Cadets put their leadership knowledge in practice by serving in positions of responsibility at every level of the program. Cadet leaders handle the daily routine in the classroom, are involved in teaching skills to junior cadets and help plan events.
For those cadets willing to work hard, MCJROTC also offers extra-curricular activities. We have Color Guard teams that support many PHS events and often perform in the local community as well as in St Louis. The program has drill, physical fitness, and marksmanship teams that compete locally, at the state level, and even in national competitions. During the 2023-2024 school year our marksmanship team traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah; Port Clinton, Ohio; and Ozark, MO. Our drill team went to Waynesville, Missouri and is slated to travel to Como Park, MN later this year.
Graduating PHS cadets are eligible to compete / apply for various college scholarships to include ROTC and academy appointments. For those cadets who are considering an enlistment, our instructors are in frequent contact with local recruiters from all the branches of service and can assist in making the transition from high school to military service.
