COACHING CERTIFICATIONS/ DOCUMENT CHECKLIST


PAID COACHING REQUIREMENTS

  1. Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate

  • Complete CIF "Fundamentals of Coaching" course on NFHS Learn.

  • Submit certification card to District Office.

  • One-time requirement.

  1. Concussion in Sports Training Certificate

  • Complete "Concussion in Sports" course on NFHS Learn.

  • Update every two years.

  1. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certificate

  • Complete "Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course" on NFHS Learn.

  • Update every two years.

  1. Heat Illness Certificate

  • Complete "Heat Illness" course on NFHS Learn.

  • Update every two years.

  1. CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Complete CPR and First Aid certification (Red Cross, Pro CPR, or eCPR).

  • Submit certificate to District Office.

  • Update every two years.

  1. Lifeguard Certification

  • Complete for water sports coaches (Water Polo, Swimming, Diving).

  • Submit certificate to District Office.

  1. Tuberculosis (TB) Test

  • Submit updated TB test results to District Office.

  • Update every four years.

  1. Social Security Card

  • Provide a copy of your Social Security card.

  1. California Picture ID

  • Provide a copy of your California ID.

  1. Fingerprints

  • Done once when hired at MVLA (via District Office).

  1. Keenan Training/Safe Schools

  • Complete Mandated Reporter, Child Abuse, Sexual Harassment, and Blood Pathogens training every year.

  • Link is emailed by the District Office, renews every July. 


VOLUNTEER COACHES REQUIREMENTS

For volunteer coaches at MVLA, the following steps must be completed before submitting the volunteer application:

Documents and Information to Submit:

  1. Tuberculosis (TB) Test or Risk Assessment

    • A digital image of your TB test or risk assessment, completed within the last 4 years.

    • If you don't have a current TB test, complete the MVLA TB Test Authorization Form and test at the district’s provider, Concerta.

    • If you previously tested positive for TB, complete and print the MVLA TB Risk Assessment Form, signed by a physician.

  2. Driver's License or Federal ID

    • A digital image of your driver's license or federal ID (photo) to be uploaded with the MVLA Volunteer application.

  3. COVID-19 Vaccination

    • A digital image of your COVID-19 vaccination card, uploaded to the MVLA Volunteers COVID Vaccination Card form.

    • All volunteers must be fully vaccinated.

  4. Completed MVLA Volunteer Application

    • Ensure the digital images of your TB test and ID are included with the application.

After Submission:

  1. Personnel Department Review

    • Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by the MVLA Personnel Department.

  2. Live Scan Fingerprints

    • After verification, you will receive a form to complete Live Scan fingerprints.

    • Keep the Live Scan service receipt and confirmation for your records.

    • Note that fingerprint processing by DOJ can take 1 to 8 weeks, and delays may occur.

  3. Keenan Safe Schools Training

    • You will receive a link to complete mandatory training via the district’s Keenan Safe Schools system.

Important Notes:

  • Do not begin volunteering until cleared by the MVLA District Office - Personnel Department.

  • If you have any questions, you can email mvla.volunteers@mvla.net and expect a response within 48 hours.

This process ensures that all volunteer coaches meet the necessary requirements before they can begin assisting.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. If my certificates are not up to date, will I get paid?

    • No, you will not be paid if your certificates are not up to date.

  2. I have not received my check yet; who do I contact?

    • Checks not picked up will be mailed to your home address. If you do not receive your check, contact the Human Resources Department.

  3. If my last name has changed, what do I do?

    • Contact Human Resources Personnel Services at 940-4650 x0041 to update your records.

  4. My mailing address has changed; who do I contact?

    • Contact Human Resources to update your mailing address.

  5. How do I know if my certificates are up to date?

    • For NHFS courses, they are valid for 2 years. You can check your status by visiting the NHFS website and looking up your name.

    • CPR/First Aid certification is valid for 2 years.

    • TB test is valid for 4 years.
