What is chemistry?

Everything in our universe is made up of matter and energy.  Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space -- it is anything that is made up of particles.  Energy is what moves and changes matter.

"Chemistry is the study of the composition of matter and the changes that matter undergoes.  Because living and nonliving things are made of matter, chemistry affects all aspects of life and most natural events."  

Chemistry impacts all aspects of your life!  What you learn in this class will help explain the world around you.  The skills that you learn in this class will not only help you with the coursework, but will also prepare you for upper level science courses, as well as the ACT and becoming a science-literate citizen.
