Learn to engage students in the exciting new virtual learning environment of 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF). In a 6DoF Virtual Reality environment, learners move around and interact with the environment with hand controls which mimic their hand movement. Using the Oculus Quest VR platform, you will explore 20 different educational applications. Learn how you can integrate virtual reality into your curriculum to support and enhance student learning. This three part series will have two, 3 hour face-to-face sessions and 4 hours independent learning. The first session will be about learning to use the Oculus Quest, followed by 4 hours of independent learning. The second face to face session will provide time to share favorite educational apps, try the amazing collection of VR movies applicable to your curriculum area, and then explore the Engage learning platform.

Overview of VR tools - 3DoF vs 6 DoF, what is available for loan from the Discovery Center, check out length and cleaning protocol
Oculus Quest controls and universal app, creating a Guardian, navigation, find and running educational apps, leaving the VR headset ready for the next user
How to cast - multiple options, management, and how to view a student device for support, introduction to SideQuest

Use the following Oculus Apps
First Steps - Go through all the activities including dancing with the robot and shooting the shapes
National Geographic Explore VR - do the 3 activities associated with the Arctic Expedition - paddle the kayak, climb the ice wall, navigate base camp => find the penguin colony and get picked up by the helicopter. Optional to explore Machu Picchu
Nature Treks VR - explore at least 4 different environments and learn to use the "creator orbs" to shape your environment
July 27 - August 8 - Independent
Explore 3 core educational apps and 2 apps from "Unknown Sources" for a minimum of 5 different apps. Document your experience using the app review form
Select one of these two learning activities
Design a lesson plan which utilizes one or more Oculus Quest apps. Include the learning goals, learning activities before using the Oculus Quests, the specific activities in the app, and the follow up activities after using the app. See lesson plan template as an example. Create a slide on one app to add to the handbook. Select an app not currently in the Educator’s Guidebook

What the the right # of devices? - 12 - 14 is often the maximum number of devices a teacher can manage at one time. Consider training a few students to serve as the Oculus support team - helping students with questions or navigation issues
