Classroom Wish Lists for the Holiday Season

Beginning this Wednesday, each classroom will have a holiday tree posted in the office with ornaments listing their classroom supply needs. Parents are invited to come in and select an ornament to grant their teacher's wish. As always, thank you for your support!

The Jack Emery Food Drive is back!

We will start collecting cans and cash on November 18th and end on December 11th. Our donations will help the Milpitas Food Pantry. There are many local families that are in need of food that will benefit from our contributions.

The Jack Emery Food Drive accounts for about 60% of the total donations that the Milpitas Food Pantry receives throughout the year. Our goal here at Zanker is to collect 4,000 cans and $500. We can do it!

To reach our goal, Student Council already did the math for us. If each student brings in 6 cans and $0.90, we will reach our goal! Let's do this for our community, Jaguars!

Scholastic Book Fair Update

Thank you to everyone for making our book fair a HUGE success! We were able to raise over $4,000 to purchase new non-fiction books for our library. Many teachers received generous book donations to their classrooms. Both parent and student volunteers were instrumental in helping to make this book fair such a success.

In the wake of dismantling Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Milpitas Unified School District wants to ensure our students and their families know their rights, and that we are here to support each and every one of you. Our District webpage has a “Resources for Immigration Support” section found at The site has been updated with even more community, legal, and educator resources -- available in multiple languages -- to better serve you and the needs of your family. The District will continue to post resources as we receive them to the this webpage.

The Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017

On August , Zanker students observed the Great American Solar Eclipse. Our Intermediate Science Specialist and a few classes were able to participate as citizen scientists and collected some temperature reading data before, during and after the eclipse. Some of the data collected has been sent to NASA where they have centralized all the data from citizen scientists from all over the world! Scientists at NASA will use the data to better understand the effects that solar eclipses have on the Earth. Zanker student scientists will be using the collected data for their first scientific investigation. Stay tuned to the Zanker Science Lab page for updates!
