Welcome to Room 23 at Zanker School! My name is Alicia Salgado, and I have been teaching in the Milpitas Unified School District since 2004. Previously, I have taught Kindergarten through Fifth Grades at Burnett, Pomeroy, and Zanker Schools. Beginning in March 2020, I had been teaching virtually (Third Grade and Kindergarten) on Zoom!
I am very excited to be teaching Kindergarten here at Zanker again with Mrs. Raj and Ms. Stanley for the 2024-2025 school year!
Thank you to the following families for their donations!
Ms. Salgado's Family
I grew up in San Jose, and attended Alum Rock Union, Berryessa Union, and East Side Union High School District schools.
I attended San Jose State University and the National Hispanic University for my BA in Liberal Studies/Early Childhood Education and Teaching Credential Programs.
I spend my summers (and part of the school year) working with the José Valdés Math Foundation as Education and Administrative Support for their Summer Program. During the summer of 2024, I was also the Site Principal for their East Bay Campus at Stanford University.
I am very active in our Teachers' Union, representing Milpitas Teachers Association as our Vice President of Elementary and as our California Teachers Association State Council Representative.
I enjoy cooking and baking for family and friends. My homemade lasagna for lunch is just one of the things that I like to share.
I have six nieces and two nephews (age ranges from 3 years old to a College Freshman). I love to spend time with them, especially now that the quarantine is over!
My family has two chihuahua mixed breed dogs, Buttercup is ten years old and Pixie is one year old). They loved going to the park with us on the last day of school for our Kindergarten Celebration!
I have had the opportunity to lobby in Sacramento, advocating for all students. I hope to be able to speak to our legislators again when we can visit the State Capitol!
I learned how to crochet when I did "Genius Hour Projects" with my Second and Third Graders before the pandemic. I love to create things for my students, like these Valentines shown here.
My daughter will be still distance learning this semester at San Jose City College. She was part of the class of 2020 and had a very interesting Senior Year while staying at home!
