Dear 2nd Grade Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!!
I hope that you had a wonderful summer and students enjoyed their time off. I can't wait to get to know all of my students and families. We are going to have a fantastic year of learning and growth! At Spangler, we have three general expectations for all members of our community: Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible. Please keep these expectations in mind when engaging at Spangler events and on the Spangler campus. We want to ensure that we surround our students with positive role models.
Please take a moment to read over some important information below:
August 10th - 11th, 2023: Minimum day Schedule - Students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm. Please pick them up promptly.
Campus arrival/pickup: Please drop off and pick up your students at the MUR (Multi-Use Room) parking lot . The second grade teachers will be present on campus and will escort the students to their lines. No parents are allowed on campus for drop off and pick up. If you have medication that has not yet been dropped off please return later in the day. Please be sure your student knows my name: "Ms. Ramu/Room 9". All students will walk directly to the blacktop and do the morning walk until the morning bell rings. If you are dropping off multiple students in different grade levels please use either the youngest/oldest child’s drop off so they can be escorted by a teacher.
If you want your child to have a water bottle please bring a reusable water bottle, filled each day. I will not be purchasing plastic water bottles but I can refill your child’s water bottle from the water fountain inside the classroom if they should run out of water.
Lunch Preference: Please let me know if your child is strictly vegetarian (does not eat all of the following at school: beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs) or if they have any food allergies.
School Supplies:
In order to maintain a unified and equitable classroom, we have purchased the following things for my students such as standard pencil boxes, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, colored pencils, erasers, dry erase markers, pencils, and composition notebooks. Please do not send any of these materials with your child for classroom use since it will disturb the class uniformity. If you still would like to contribute to our class, you are welcome to buy it for the whole class 🙂 ( 24 students in my class).
For general classroom use, I would greatly appreciate donations of the following:
Copy Printer Paper - 8.5" x 11"
Disinfecting wipes
Hand sanitizer
Baby wipes
Tissue boxes
OPTIONAL - Gift Cards (Amazon, Walmart, Target, or Michaels)
For personal use in classroom, students will need:
Headphones/Earbuds (preferably in a ziploc bag with their name on it)
Reusable water bottle labeled with your child’s name, for daily use
Please send in the headphones by Monday, August 14th. If you have financial difficulties with any of the requested personal items, please let me know.
After School program:
We are having a new after school program this year - Right At School. It is currently full but if you need more information or would like to be placed on the waitlist, please visit our school website and you can look under the “Parents” tab.
For the first weeks of school, our class will be focusing on getting to know one another, building our classroom community, and understanding expectations. Please be on the lookout for information regarding Back to School Night on Thursday, August 24th 6pm to 7pm, where we will go over more details about this school year.
We look forward to getting to know all of you. Thank you for entrusting us with your child! We look forward to working with you to support your child best. Reading at home daily and talking to your child about school daily help their growth and development. We are going to have a fantastic year of learning and growth!
If you have any concerns or questions, please let me know so that we can have open communication and discussion on what is the best way we can help support you and your child and your family. Thank you so much! We look forward to a wonderful year with your children and your families!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Ramu (Room 9)
