Hello, and welcome to our classroom community! My name is Mx. Guevara, and I’ll be your child’s teacher this year. This will be my seventh year teaching at MUSD! I love building classroom community and helping students develop a lifelong passion for learning. I look forward to getting to know and collaborating with your students and families!
I grew up and still live in San Jose. I studied English and Urban Education at Santa Clara University. After graduating, I worked at Reading Partners, a non-profit literacy program, before going back to SCU to earn my teaching credential as well as a master's degree in Education.
My parents emigrated from the Philippines shortly before I was born. I also have two younger sisters and one dog & one cat. While I don't speak Tagalog, I can understand when it is spoken to me. As a Filipino-American, recognizing and celebrating both sides of my heritage is very important to me.
Along with helping students achieve academic standards, I understand the importance of social-emotional learning and look forward to celebrating all my students' different cultures, backgrounds, and identities!
I've been reading a lot of Philippine history books lately, but my favorite children's literature authors are Tamora Pierce and Mary Pope Osborne.
I love my mom's cooking like spaghetti or chicken adobo.
I perform in a traditional Filipino dance company as a dancer and musician! I also like playing video games, reading, and baking!
In elementary, my favorite subject was math, but I fell in love with and obtained an undergrad degree in English.
I like anything chocolate, especially Hershey's Kisses and Crunch.
My morning always starts with a cup of coffee, but I also love a Hokkaido milk tea from Sunright!
Purple but also rainbow!
I have a dog (Savannah) and a cat (Hambone), but I really want to have a pet snake in the future!
