Students are expected to read for at least 100 minutes a week outside of school.
Please keep in mind that reading at home is in addition to homework minutes.
"Reading is lifework, not homework."
• Help your child arrive at school on time every day. We start at 8:00am.
• Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast, snack, and lunch each school day.
Breakfast is offered in the school cafeteria between 7:20am-7:50am.

• Make sure your child wears appropriate shoes for P.E.
• Provide a quiet place at home for your child to study.
• Have a conversation with your child about their school day.
• Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep.
The Center for Disease Control recommends kids aged 6-12 need 9 to 12 hours of sleep per 24 hours. (Article: "Sleep and Health")
*NOTE: Information below was taken from the "MUSD Reference Handbook for Students, Parents, and Employees":
For the safety and protection of all, students should not attend school and may be sent home for any symptom listed below:
• Temperature of 100° F or above and not feeling well
Students should be fever-free, without the use of medication, for 24 hours before returning to school
• Diarrhea or nausea accompanied by vomiting
Students experiencing diarrhea or severe nausea and/or vomiting, must be kept at home for 48 hours after they no longer have symptoms
• Pain that does not subside after approximately 15 to 20 minutes of rest
• Appears ill, even though symptoms are vague
• Any combination of cold symptoms with fever or if student is too lethargic to participate in school
• Flu symptoms: aching accompanied by fever
• Conjunctivitis (redness of eyes) with tearing or a purulent discharge
A note may be required verifying whether the rash is contagious or not
If a student is at school with any of these symptoms, a parent/guardian will be called to pick up the student. Protocols for illness and outbreaks may change based on directions from the Public Health Department. Under certain circumstances, parents/guardians may be asked to consult a physician and provide a written note from that physician indicating that the student may return to school. For the most current update, families can refer to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) website.
