Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach designed to create safer and more effective schools. Instead of being a specific program or curriculum, PBIS offers a framework that helps schools develop, implement, and assess our own school-wide, classroom, and individual behavior support strategies.
Our Goal: Create a positive school climate in which learners grow and learn.
Our Philosophy: When working with learners is to effectively manage their behavior in order to maximize learning. We accomplish this by setting clear expectations, teaching the expectations, and recognizing when expectations are met.
Here’s what PBIS means for our school:
School-Wide Expectations: PBIS includes procedures and processes for all students and staff across all settings within the school.
Research-Based Support: PBIS is grounded in research and focuses on enhancing our school's ability to teach and support positive behaviors for all students.
Team-Based Approach: It involves a team-based process for systemic problem-solving, planning, and evaluation to ensure effectiveness.
Creating a Positive Environment: The goal is to foster a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.
