WHAT IS PAGE ONE? 

Since 1976, the Ledger-Enquirer has celebrated student achievement and potential with its annual Page One Awards. The Ledger-Enquirer has honored the area's most outstanding high school seniors. Nominees are chosen based on their records of leadership, scholarship and character.

The Page One Awards program for students consists of 13 categories. Area high schools are invited to nominate one student in each category. From these nominees, a panel of experts selects an overall Page One Winner and a Runner-up in each of the categories. Each Page One winner receives a Page One trophy and a $1,000 cash award. The Page One winner in the journalism category will receive a $1,500 cash award. The runner-up in each category will receive a plaque and a $300 cash award. Every nominee receives a certificate of recognition as a Page One nominee.

High schools participating in the overall Page One program are invited to nominate one teacher to compete for the Sara Spano Top Teacher Award. This award is given based on educational achievements, public and school service and above average teaching ability. The nominees are interviewed by a panel of experts to narrow the field down to three teachers. The winner receives a Page One Trophy and a $1,000 cash award. The two runners-up receive a $300 cash award and plaques. All candidates receive a certificate of recognition as a Sara Spano Top Teacher for their school. This award is in memory of the late Ledger-Enquirer Columnist and former Food Editor Sara Spano.
