Southern home-grown in a small town and educated in the big city, I have always had a natural curiosity lead me. That curiosity developed into a love of learning and a passion for sharing what I have learned with others.
Upon graduation from college, my first employer placed me on the path to loving Science Education. D.A.T.E. Charter School inspired and encouraged me to develop skills in science and technology. I obtained my Masters degree during my years with them in Stone Mountain. They continue to be an example of excellence in education!
Family matters called me back home to North Georgia and I have remained to grow my own family. I currently teach Art & Science at Eton Elementary for grades K-6th. It is a dream job! As my school continues toward STEAM certification, they allow me to support our educators across grade levels in planning, curriculum implementation, professional development, and co-teaching science. We use the integration of the Arts to inspire students. Our latest project had students research and model bioluminescent life under the ocean by building a large scale underwater scene with glow materials. Students learned about the differences between the bioluminescent glow of animals and the fluorescent UV glow of the materials we used as well as how black lights work.
My passion is to see students enjoying learning in their science classes. I strive to help students grow into flexible thinkers that will be productive and positive members of society. In recent years, I have been blessed to partner with the International Science Teaching Foundation, Learning Bits, and Carolina Biological to present professional development to educators. After 15 years of instructional work and 7 years of developing and implementing materials for the 5E and 3D methodologies, I have built my own workshop resources for educators to help motivate and elevate their students to the performance levels they seek. Now contracting independently to schools, I am excited to share my passion, resources and experience with more science teachers across the country!
