School Trips

Puy du Fou, Toledo     by Jose Martínez Fernández and   Adrián Serrano Solano (1Bach)

The last 3rd of May, some students of 1ºBachillerato went to Toledo in order to visit the amazing park “Puy du Fou”, where we could enjoy all the shows that were based on our history and literature.

We took a bus from El Algar at 6 am to Toledo and we arrived at 12 pm. When we arrived, we went directly to the park because the first show was about to start. During the day, we learnt many things in every show. Each spectacle was different and special because each one had something that impressed us, such as the special effects, dances, decoration, animals, etc. After a long and incredible day, we had some free time to walk around the park and buy anything we wanted because we were waiting to watch “El sueño de Toledo”, which was the well known night show. When the night arrived, we were anxiously waiting in our seats  for the performance which caught our attention because it was unbelievable. This is due to the realistic story they play about the situation in Spain from the past until now, passing through the most important events that changed our history, like the discovery of America, the civil war, some artists (Miguel de Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca…), the independence war or the famous bicycle race “La vuelta a España”.

After this incredible trip we had to come back to El Algar. During the journey, we tried to sleep in the bus because we were very tired after a long day. Finally, we arrived at El Algar at 5 am and we went home to continue sleeping.

Our Amazing Trip to Puy du Fou,    by Nadia Sánchez Alcocer (1Bach)

Last week the teacher Bea of language decided to take us on a fun trip to Toledo, where we visited Puy du Fou. It's a park with incredible shows happening all day, and at night, we couldn't  miss the show that is considered by the experts the best in the world called 'The Dream of Toledo.'

Bea chose this place so that we could better understand the literature we were studying in class because the shows represented events of literature or history, for example of Lope de Vega, Cervantes, or the independence of France.

The Head of Studies Pedro and José , the other teacher of language, also came to this trip. They also had a good day. In the shows appeared horses, houses that looked as if they were burning...everything seemed real and it was impressive and incredible.

We went from show to show. However, Bea left us free time for dinner, but we were very tired and for this reason, when we got to the bus at night, no one was heard talking. Why would it be? THEY WERE ALL SLEEPING😂

I recommend this trip because you learn a lot about the topic that you are learning in class and you can put it more in context.

Would you sign up for a trip like this?

A Visit to Cartagna

by Fátima Azahraa Temnani Maazouz (1Bach)

Last April the high school planned a visit to Cartagena. This town is full of history and we enjoyed the most important museum that Cartagena has , the Roman Theatre and the old Roman city . We went by bus. It took us twenty minutes to get there . The museum was next to the port of the city . We did different activities that the museum had organised. The best thing was to study the beauty of the ancient sculptures , pictures …

Later we went to an ancient Roman part of the city where we could see the type of life that the Romans had in the past .

At half past one we returned to school .

I am very happy and I will never forget this tour around Cartagena.

Mediterranean Cruise, 4th ESO School Trip

31st March to 5th April

The last 31st of March was the school trip of 4 ESO. The students made a cruise  by the Mediterranean Sea. The trip started at half past one in the early morning. We took a bus from the high school to the port of Barcelona and we arrived there at eleven in the morning.

Then, in the afternoon we had a speech to learn things about the cruise, for example, the schedule of the buffet and  activities we could do.

The first stop was in Marseille, France. We didn't see the city, we stayed on the cruise all day. The second stop was Savona, Italy. We visited the city and some cathedrals. At night we danced in the disco but we had to stay in our cabin until one early in the morning.

The third stop was Rome, Italy. We woke up at six in the morning for breakfast and took a bus to Rome. The bus trip took two hours from the port to Rome, but we slept the whole trip.

In Rome we met with a guide who made a tour around the city. She gave us a radio to better listen to her explanations about the landmarks. First we visit the Vatican city but we could not enter. Then we visited the Piazza Navona, where we ate some typical food from there. Then we visited the famous Fontana Di Trevi and the Pantheon. In the afternoon we visited the Roman Forum and the Colisseum. Then we returned to the cruise and we started to prepare for the next night. Every night was a theme night, for example, the gala night or the costumes night. The next day was the navigation day. We used this day to relax and enjoy the facilities of the cruise, for example we went to the swimming pool. The last day we arrived in Barcelona again and we took our bags and we took the bus back home.

This experience was incredible and I want to go back there all the time. I enjoyed it a lot with my classmates and I met new friends. I will remember this trip for the rest of my life.

The last 31 of March, all fourth-year ESO students went on a study trip. The trip was a route on a cruise around the Mediterranean sea for a total of 6 days, leaving from Barcelona and visiting cities such as Marseille, Savona, and Rome.

The cruise we took is called Costa Fortuna, which is an Italian crew company where many crew members work everyday to give us the best experience inside the boat. Everyday, the company offered us many plans to do inside and outside of this floating city, including a big list of thematic nights.

My friends and I usually went to the buffet, to the pool, or to do bachata with French and Italian people. When it got dark, we went to get ready for dinner and also for the disco with the recommended clothing for each day, like the first one, that was “elegant”.

We met many other students, especially in the evening activities and we were able to spend the whole trip together, even at important stops like Rome.

The most important stop, as I have mentioned before, was Rome, which was also my favorite. Although this city was so crowded and a little bit stressful because of the big quantity of people that were there, I enjoyed many places such as the Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Navona, The Roman Forum or The Coliseum. My friends and I did the typical activities there, like trying pizza or ice cream in a gelateria

The last day, Erika and I stayed awake to see the last dawn on the boat, which was beautiful. After the incredible views, we had to leave the cruise to return to El Algar.

Brussels

The last time I traveled was on the 26th of January to Brussels, with my classmates and three teachers who I love very much. Apart from being in Brussels, we visited other cities in Belgium such as Antwerp, Brugge, Ghent and Mechelen. My favourite was Brugge because it was very different from other cities, the houses looked like something out of a fantasy movie. Talking about typical Belgian foods, I tried the waffles, the fries and my favourite, the stew. I also tried the beer, although I didn't like it, there were some that I liked.  An anecdote that I won't forget was when the bus left us at the wrong hotel and we had to walk around Brussels with our suitcase to the hotel that corresponded to us. At the moment it wasn't funny, but now I remember it like an anecdote. In conclusion, it was a very fun and interesting trip, which I will always remember due to it being the last trip I will do with the school.

Mechelen (Malinas)

Recently, our class went on our last high school trip to Belgium, where we visited cities such as Brussels, Malinas, Amberes, Gante or Brugges. When we first arrived at the airport , some problems started to appear such as a broken or delayed suitcase, but in the end all went relatively well.  Then we went by bus to go to our hotel because we were very tired due to the flight, but the best part is that the driver left us at the wrong hotel, so we had to walk for about 30 minutes to our actual hotel, all of this in the first day. On the next few days we visited cities such as Ghent where we wanted to try some typical food such as a dish called beef stew, which by the way was quite expensive. Talking about the food, what I liked more was the fries and the waffles we tried in different cities. But my favorite city was Brugges because it was the most different city of all we visited. What I liked the most was the design of the houses and the lake which crossed the city.

by Jaime Carrión Soto (2Bach)

Last week, my classmates and I went on a trip to Brussels. On Monday we visited the city of Ghent. It was my favorite. What I liked the most was the castle that could be seen from one of its bridges. If we had been able to, I would have really liked to visit the city at night. It is true that day was my absolute favorite, apart from visiting Ghent. When we returned to the center of Brussels, I was able to try the typical waffle there for the first time.

It was really delicious, I chose one that had Nutella, but there were many more toppings to add. I laughed a lot, I tried to enjoy with all my colleagues a lot. But there was one afternoon in particular when I had an incredible time. We laughed a lot when we smeared our faces with cream and chocolate from the waffles or when my phone slipped down my jeans and Marta had to help me catch it from the ankle. An unforgettable but unrepeatable trip.

About Two weeks ago I went on a trip to Belgium with my class, and I have to say that the country is absolutely beautiful. The hotel we were staying in was in Brussels, and although the area it was in didn't have me in the highest of spirits, once we got to the city center I found myself in awe of the brilliant and intricate architecture. The shock factor didn't end there though, as the scenery only got more and more jaw dropping as we went to each city, from the colourful twisty streets of Antwerp to the divine gothic churches of Brugges, each city had its own personal charm. That said, my favourite place that I visited was a bar called Delirium, that served some sublime beer and played a brilliant selection of music. Of course I also tried a lot of different foods, the best of them being Flemish beef stew, which I ordered at a restaurant in Ghent with some friends. Though something a bit suspicious happened when we ordered it as they only brought out a portion for two and said it was for four people! We promptly complained to the waiter and he brought out the rest of it for us, but even so that was very sneaky on their part! Negatives aside, it was a very enjoyable trip, even if it was too short.

The last trip that I did was to Brussels. I went with my school and it was a 6 day trip.We visited a lot of amazing cities like Brussels, Brugge, Antwerp and Ghent. My favourite place of all the cities that I visited was Brugge. I absolutely loved the amazing houses, streets and architecture. I went on a boat trip around the city with all my friends and it was a beautiful moment.

I tried a lot of incredible food and I can’t choose my favourite but if I need to keep only one, it will be the famous waffle with white chocolate and the fries with  Algerian sauce. I have uncountable fun anecdotes like the time a pigeon shat on me but my favourite was the night when all the class were imitating teachers and playing the famous ``yo también ‘’ with my teachers, because it was a unforgettable moment. We weren’t worried about anything and we only were having fun. I am sure that I will remember this trip all my life.

Antwerp (Amberes)

My last trip to Bruselas was so special because it was my last trip with the school. In addition to Brussels, we also visited beautiful cities like Brugge, Ghent, Antwerp… It was wonderful to stroll through the streets of these cities. We also visited other amazing sites such as the Atomium, the Grand Place and the statue of Manneken Pis. About the typical foods, what I liked the most were the waffles with chocolate and the fries.I have very good memories and anecdotes about Brussels, but one of my favorite was the second night at the hotel playing Never Have I Ever and doing impressions. The whole city has this awesome mix of history and good times. I  also have to mention the beer and the bars which were amazing. Can’t wait to go back.

Last week I visited one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, Belgium. We went on a school trip for six days and its lovely villages completely amazed us. Although we visited some very famous and tourist places, my favorite one was Malinas, maybe because when it got dark the city lights were charming.

Even though there are thousands of kilometers between Belgium and our country, the food wasn’t so different. The streets were full of places that sell chips, beer and waffles, three of the things that you must try there. But be careful, prices are crazy almost everywhere. Our hotel was located in a bad zone of the city, but that led to one of the funniest anecdotes of the trip. One day, after an excursion, some of us went to the city center to say goodbye to the place, and the way back to the hotel was just unforgettable. Everything that afternoon was so funny that I can’t remember it without laughing again (and we weren’t drunk, I promise). It was without any doubts the best week of my life.

Ghent is an enormous Belgian city where I have been on a school trip. Its breathtaking castles and buildings have been essential for the growing number of tourists in recent years.

Ghent is generally known for its picturesque castles, historical buildings and pretty rivers. Moreover, some typical food I have tried there, which I recommend to you, are their famous fries where you can choose your favourite sauce, the meat stew with some gravy, and don´t forget to try their stunning waffles with a wide variety of toppings. Apart from that, there are lots of spots near the castles and rivers for taking photos, but be careful with the seagulls that are around. While I was taking photos with my friend, suddenly, two seagulls leaned on our shoulders. We got scared, screamed and started to run away from them. As you can see, Ghent is a splendid place to visit; you have got everything near you, even the public transport. Bicycles are frequently used there. You won't be bored as there is nature, along with a rich history. It is a perfect place for a holiday, and if it is possible, avoid winter as it is usually very cold and snowy.

Belgium,                              2nd Bach School Trip        26th - 31st January

A few weeks ago, I went to Belgium with my classmates on our last school trip together. In our stay in this small country we visited different places like Antwerp, Brussels, Malinas and Ghent, all splendid places. But in my opinion, the most beautiful of them was Bruges. Although the day that we visited the city it was cloudy and a bit rainy, it didn't matter to us to wander around the stunning street and admire the breathtaking spots. I fell in love with the front of the small shops, specifically with one that was only for Christmas decorations. Definitely, Bruges has a beautiful atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in a fairy tail. Apart from that, Belgians have their typical dishes like the stew, and they are also experts in cooking delicious waffles with chocolate. However, for me, my favourite foods there were the fries with different sauces, the tastiest that I have ever tried. And last but not least, I can't forget to mention one of the funniest moments during the trip. The day that we visited Ghent, we were almost going to hop on the bus, we were next to the river, and from one moment to another, one of my classmates was surrounded by lots of pigeons and seagulls. This trip was just a few days, but it was incredible in all the aspects and completely unforgettable.

Brugge (Brujas) by boat

Two weeks ago, my classmates and I went to Belgium, a country in the north of Europe. We visited some cities such as Brussels, where our youth hostel was located, Antwerp, Mechelen, Brugges and Ghent. All of these places are commonly full of people but, as it was off season, we could get around the cities camly and we also could appreciate the heart-stopping cathedrals and the spectacular landscapes. However, in case you are considering going to one of those places, you should know that the prices and rates are usually higher than what you have thought, so the best option is trying to deal in souvenirs shops and asking for tap water in restaurants, because it is common and it is very clean. In fact, my friends and I went to a restaurant where we paid nine euros for a one liter bottle of water by mistake. Nevertheless, Belgium is a beautiful country with a lot of mixed cultures where you can find all types of people.

by Lorena García Delgado (2Bach)

My last trip to Brussels was really cool! I loved visiting the Grand Place the most because it looked so pretty with all the old buildings and monuments. Also the city of Brugge was amazing and we ate some burgers that were delicious. I also tried Belgian waffles for the first time, and they were amazing! They were crispy with cream sauce and strawberries on top. One funny thing that happened was when I accidentally walked into a street performer while trying to take a picture of a funny statue called Manneken Pis. We both ended up laughing. It was silly but really fun! Even though I got lost in the small streets, I had a great time exploring and trying different foods like fries with mayonnaise or the flamingo stew. Overall, my trip to Brussels was awesome, and I can't wait to go back and explore more!

Antwerp (Amberes)

On 26th of January, we took a plane to Brussels. Well, once we arrived at the airport, we took a bus that was driven by Karim. After one hour, we finally arrived at the hotel, but Karim left us at the wrong hotel, so we had to walk one kilometer, with our suitcases, to the hotel. We stayed in Brussels for five nights, but apart from Brussels, we visited other cities like Brugges, Ghent or Antwerp. For me, the best city we visited was Brugges, due to the kind of houses that are there and the landscapes that we visited in our travel. Apart from the places, the food in Belgium is one of the best food I've ever tasted. The best one was the Belgian stew, which is one of the typical dishes in Belgium, like the beer. Talking about beers, we visited the Delirium Coffee, where we tasted an important amount of different kinds of beers, for five euros. To sum up, this trip lets me know the beauty that Belgium has, from the smallest detail to the maximum.

by Mario Martínez Frutos (2Bach)

My last trip was to Brussels, our scholar trip. It was awesome, even with its setbacks. When we arrived I discovered that my suitcase was completely broken. I went to make a claim and the airline gave me a new one, but in my house, in Spain. So I was in Belgium with a suitcase that was falling apart and, to make it worse, our bus left us in the wrong hotel, 30 minutes away walking. Clearly, I had to buy a new one, bigger enough to carry mine inside in order to not open it in the middle of the shop. Even with all that I enjoyed the trip a lot, I tried most typical food there, like their stew, and we visited lots of astonishing spots in all the cities we went to. I’m glad to have had such a great trip in my last year with all my partners and I would love to do something similar for my own in the near future.

Last week, I went on a school trip with my class to Brussels, where we were for six days. Brussels is the capital of Belgium, and also of the Europe. When I visited the center of the city, I was impressed by the buildings. The center was full of spectacular monuments and breathtaking cathedrals. Moreover, the streets were very lively, with many shops and pubs. Brussels is very beautiful but it was not the city what I liked most. Brugge is a wonderful town where you may wander near  the river while you see its typical houses. About the food, I have to stand out the fries with a typical Andalusa sauce, which is very popular there. The best of Brussels was the beer. We spent the afternoons in a famous pub there, called Delirium, testing all types beer because there was a great variety. At night, we went outside the hotel and we met the Italians and Greeks who also were travelling. Speaking with them was very funny and all was crazy. Belgium is an amazing country that I recommend visiting, and specially on a school trip.

Trip to La Molina

by Ángela Rodríguez Velasco & María García Tobal(1Bach)

On 14th of January started this trip. Teachers met with us at 7.30 in the high school. Students of 1º Bachillerato and 3º ESO went to this trip. It took 11 hours to get to ‘La Molina’, in Cataluña. We went by bus and it made the trip very long and boring, but we were with our friends so we spent the time talking and laughing. We arrived at 18.30 to the ski station where the ski’s monitors were. They gave us our ski materials for the next day.

The sky station was located 10 minutes further from the hotel. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel but we had lunch at the ski station. We left the hotel at 9 o’clock am and at 18 o'clock we came back from the station.

The trip took six days. The first day , the monitors taught us how to ski because most of us had never skied before. The monitors didn’t let us ski on the ski slope because we didn’t know how to do it correctly, so we spent the afternoon practicing what they had taught us.

Every day we got ski lessons in the morning and we got free time in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, the third day it rained so we couldn’t ski after the morning lesson. Instead of skiing we visited Puigcerdà, a beautiful village located one hour from the hotel.

The last day we skied on a blue slope. There were 10 minutes and 3 km of skiing around a mountain. We went there with some teachers and many of our classmates.

On 19th of January we came back home. This trip was enjoyable and we will always remember this experience.

Snow Trip,           La Molina

by Aitana Capel Salas (1Bach)

Last January I went on a school trip with my classmates and teachers to La Molina in Girona.

We set off very early in the morning. It took us about 12 hours by bus. It was a tiring travel because we got to the hotel the following day.

In the morning, we used to go to skiing slope where we were taught to ski. The first day I fell off several times. However, I tried and tried and finally I learned to ski in a few days.

In the afternoon, we visited some towns. The best was Puigcerdá, a very beautiful place where we spent a whole evening. There was a wonderful lake and we went to a ice rink to skate. We had dinner to a typical restaurant and everything was delicious and we had a really good time.

The last day we went to Andorra. It was snowing. We were walking in the snow and we took some spectacular photos. We did some sightseeing and we bought some souvenirs for our family and friends. The following morning we returned home.

This trip has been one of the best experiences in my life and I know I will never forget my school trip to the snow.

Hiking Club

Last December 16 of 2023, we, the hiking club, went to Cabo Tiñoso. Our journey started at 8:00 in the morning, we passed through Bolete Chico and we also passed through El Bolete Grande. At first it is always difficult to start but along the way I got used to it. There was a beach along the road and some people went in the water. When I put my feet in the water, the water was freezing.

Batería Las Cenizas

by Lorena García Delgado (2Bach)

Hiking Club

Last Thursday, 22nd November, our hiking club went to Las Cenizas, which is a mountain near Portman. First of all, its climbing route is surrounded by all types of plants and trees where you can appreciate its spectacular wildlife if you stay still in silence. However, the most wonderful view is at its top. There, you can see the breathtaking landscapes and the coast of Cartagena at a glance. In addition, if you go at the beginning of the afternoon, you will be able to see the heart-stopping sunset from its top. Besides, there is a fake cannon that you can climb and contemplate nature from there and you can also breathe non-polluted air. In short, if you look for a mountain route for a change, Las Cenizas is a very good option due to its climbing route, which is perfect to get started.

Visit to CIFP -Innova Fest

Students of First and Second Year of FPB , in cooperation with ANSE association, participated in an activity in Carlos III High School. They worked on two workshops. The first Soft Skills workshop was about creating a "Capsule of Life", where they had to select some resilient seeds pretending they would be sent to another planet. The second workshop was about Kokedama. It literally means "moss ball", and our students combined moss with soil to design beautiful flower arrangements.

It was an amazing experience!!!

Los Urrutias

by Hanane Mhammedi Arbouch (1Bach)

The trip began from the school to the Social Club of Los Urrutias. They reached the Club by walking through the fields of Algar and Los Urrutias. About 200 students of 1ESO and 2ESO  participated. In all the duration of the round trip was three hours and they traveled 12,5 km in total.

We've interviewed some teachers and a student to find out more about the trip.

Daniel Garre Martínez (PE teacher)

What is it that motivated you to do this extracurricular activity from the beginning?

The origin of the excursion is still a mystery, since it was done before I have arrived at this high school. But my goal is for students to get to know each other and improve the relationship between classmates. That's why I prevent students from using their mobile phones during the excursion.

Have you had any complications over the years with this extracurricular activity?

This excursion depends a lot on the weather and this can cause the trip being cancelled due to heavy rains. Something similar happened to us a few years ago. There was no rain forecast but suddenly it began to rain on the way but despite the fact that we arrived dirty with mud, we enjoyed the activity.

Do you think that, in general, the students and teachers like or end up liking going on this  trip?

Personally, I think so. Both teachers and students end up liking it because they get out of the usual routine.

If you had to give a score to this extracurricular activity, according to how satisfying it was for you, what would it be? Would you improve or change anything about it?

My score is a 7 of 10, because we could do more fun things like climbing the hill of Las Cenizas but that would imply a cost or not so many students could not go.

Anabel Martínez Heredia (PE teacher)

What is it that motivated you to do this extracurricular activity from the beginning?

What makes me want to do this activity is that I want to bring the knowledge to the students that they can exercise outside the home with something as simple as walking, as well as getting to know new places.

Have you ever had any complications over the years with this extracurricular activity?

Normally there are always people who go without having had breakfast and this causes dizziness, especially if you are going to walk  for so long in the sun. That is why you should always eat breakfast, as you have to provide energy to the body to avoid this discomfort. And that does not only apply in an excursion like this, breakfast is something fundamental in our day to day.

Do you think that, in general, the students and teachers like or end up liking going on this field trip?

As far as I know, both teachers and students like this activity. The students can get to know the beach of Los Urrutias, as well as places to do sports such as the Sports Club of Los Urrutias. And the teachers always ask to be able to go on next year's excursion.

If you had to give a score to this extracurricular activity, according to how satisfying it was for you, what would it be? Would you improve or change anything about it?

For me this excursion is a 9 of 10. I really enjoy it, both going for a walk and enjoying it with my students and colleagues.

Houda (1B student)

What did you think of the excursion?

If I could describe it in two words, it would be: Interesting and fun. On the excursion I could see crabs and jellyfish, I even saw a kind of swan! That, in addition,  being with the company of my friends, made this experience much better. In addition, having my first trip since I entered the institute, it made me even more special.

What would you have changed or added to improve your experience on that excursion?

I would have liked to extend the duration of the excursion and the time of the "play hour" more. Because I was sorry when we went back to class very early when we were having a great time.

Did you meet new people? What advice would you give to teachers for organizing school trips to make it easier for students to get to know each other?

I think it would have been better if they had organized a team game in order to have fun and meet more people.

If you had to give a score to this extracurricular activity, according to how satisfying it was for you, what would it be?

I would give it a 7/10. It was a fun and special excursion, the first one I go to in high school. But, it was definitely not perfect. I think it was definitely missing that activities were organized to make us socialize more.
