Every Adventure Helps Scouts Grow
Cub Scout advancement is about learning by doing. As Scouts participate in activities, games, outdoor adventures, service projects, and family experiences, they build new skills and work toward completing their rank.
Advancement isn't about being the fastest or finishing first—it's about doing your best, trying new things, and growing along the way.
The Cub Scout Journey
Cub Scouts grow through the program one adventure at a time, with each rank designed for their age and grade level.
LION — Kindergarten
TIGER — 1st Grade
WOLF — 2nd Grade
BEAR — 3rd Grade
WEBELOS — 4th Grade
ARROW OF LIGHT — 5th Grade
Scouts join the rank that matches their current grade—no previous Scouting experience is required.
How Advancement Works
TRY IT → LEARN IT → COMPLETE IT → CELEBRATE IT
Scouts learn by participating in adventures at meetings, events, outdoors, and with their families. As they try new things and complete the adventures for their grade level, they make progress toward their rank—and we celebrate their achievements along the way!
TRY IT
Scouts participate in adventures through Pack meetings, outdoor activities, special events, and experiences with their families.
LEARN IT
Each adventure gives Scouts opportunities to practice new skills, explore new ideas, build confidence, and learn by doing.
COMPLETE IT
As Scouts complete the required adventures for their grade level, they make progress toward earning their Cub Scout rank.
CELEBRATE IT
Achievements are recognized along the way! Scouts earn recognition for completed adventures and celebrate when they earn their rank.
Advancement Happens Everywhere
Scouting doesn't stop when the Monday meeting ends.
Scouts work toward advancement in lots of different ways. Requirements may be completed during Pack meetings, special events, outdoor adventures, campouts, family activities, and other Scouting experiences throughout the year.

Not every adventure has to be completed at a Pack meeting. When appropriate, Pack 66 provides families with resources to help Scouts continue working on advancement at home.
