EDITORIAL DESIGN
Jacob Sigala is a photographer and filmmaker who captures compelling visual stories under his creative studio, Jacob's Medium. He approached Multo Sakalye to create a tangible, high-impact zine to present his work in a format that transcends a typical digital gallery.
Print is a powerful medium for creating intimate and immersive brand experiences.
THE CHALLENGE
Jacob had a powerful and diverse collection of photographs from Cuba, Lebanon, Norway, and Mexico City. The challenge was to curate these images into a single, cohesive print narrative that would feel both personal and professional.
THE APPROACH
Discovery
We began by immersing ourselves in the full photo collection from all four locations, identifying the core themes, emotional tones, and visual rhythms unique to each city.
Strategy
The strategic direction was to structure the zine like a travelogue, with each city presented as its own "chapter." This allowed me to create a distinct mood for each section while unifying them under a consistent, elegant design system.
Design
I explored various layouts, from dramatic full-bleed spreads to dynamic, collage-style arrangements. The typography was carefully chosen to be modern yet timeless, using bold display fonts for titles and clean serifs for narrative text to ensure readability and aesthetic appeal.
Refinement
The final stage involved polishing the pacing of the zine, ensuring a compelling flow from one page to the next. I integrated pull quotes and QR codes linking to video content to create an interactive experience that bridges the print and digital worlds.
By crafting a deliberate visual pace and a tactile journey, it transforms a collection of photographs into a compelling narrative. This project is a reminder that thoughtful editorial design can give art the impactful showcase it deserves.
