Dear future AP Literature students,
This summer, to prepare for our course in the fall, read one of the contemporary novels above, plus the corresponding author interview. I recommend you read the book in August so that it's fresh in your mind in September. You will be working with your book and completing assignments related to it during the first two weeks of school and will need access to the text in class -- please keep this in mind if you choose to borrow it from a library. At the latest, you must finish all reading by the start of class on Monday, September 8.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kuzmany

Which characters besides the protagonist are the most compelling/annoying/memorable/important? Why?
How does the story unfold (chronologically, in flashbacks, ...?) and who is telling the story?
Which internal or external conflicts do the characters face, and are these conflicts resolved in the end?
How important is the setting to the story? Why?
In what way does this book relate to your own life and experiences? What did you learn from reading this book about a community, place, historical time period, or customs unfamiliar to you?
