FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Good evening, Bear Family.
At Merced High School, we are continuing to explore what it truly means to be Bear STRONG. This week, we shift our focus to the R: Respectful.
Being respectful means treating others with kindness, valuing differences, and conducting yourself in a way that contributes to our Bear STRONG culture. In the classroom, respect is shown by listening attentively, following directions, and being considerate of your teachers and classmates. It means engaging in discussions thoughtfully, allowing others to share their perspectives, and handling disagreements in a mature and constructive way.
In the hallways and around campus, being respectful means using polite language, keeping noise levels appropriate, and treating school property with care. It also includes helping to maintain a clean environment. Leaving trash or food on the ground disrespects our campus.
Respect extends beyond school and into the community. Whether you’re at work, at a sporting event, or in a public space, showing respect means acknowledging others’ feelings, following rules, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. It’s about understanding that our actions impact those around us and choosing to be a positive influence wherever we go. You are representing MHS on and off campus.
Respect is also about self-respect: taking pride in your work, making healthy choices, and standing up for what’s right in a constructive manner.
This week, I encourage each of you to ask yourself: Am I treating others the way I would like to be treated? Am I helping to create a culture of respect at MHS? Together, let’s continue to build a school and community where everyone feels safe and valued.
STRONGer Together,
Marcus A. Knott
