The district, up until this point, has always used Microsoft for email services. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and virtual classroom environments quickly ushered in permanent changes regarding teacher and student use of technology in the classroom. Part of these changes is the increased usage of Google services. Migrating to Gmail will allow the full integration of all Google services for use in Muhlenberg County Schools.
The district is working with an authorized partner to ensure that existing email (including mail folders), contacts and distribution lists for all staff will be seamlessly migrated to Gmail. More information, including timelines, will be forthcoming. However, the district plans to have the migration fully complete by December 31, 2023.
The only mailbox contents that will not be migrated are your existing Microsoft Trash and Junk folders. Prior to the migration, please check those folders for any important emails or subfolders.
Existing student email will not be migrated. However, students will have read-only access to their old Microsoft mailbox for several months post-migration. Otherwise, just like staff, students will utilize Gmail to access their mail after the transition.
No. Student and staff email addresses will remain unchanged.
Your district Gmail/Google account password should always be synced and be the same password as your current Microsoft (email) account. If your Microsoft password doesn't allow you to sign into Google, please follow the link below to reset your password. Once reset, the new password will apply to both Microsoft and Google accounts. If this reset method doesn't work for you, please contact the Technology Department for assistance.
No. You will continue to use the SSO button followed by your Microsoft account credentials to log into Infinite Campus.
You will retain access to your district Microsoft account. The only real difference is that Microsoft will no longer be used for email post-migration.
No. Much like IC, nothing will change here. You will continue logging into Munis using your district Microsoft account.
Yes, all the online versions of Microsoft Office apps, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Calendar, etc. will remain available at Office.com after the migration.
Yes. The only difference is that Gmail calls them Labels instead of folders. Otherwise, the organization of your existing folders and their contents will migrate to Gmail.
Your Microsoft calendar events will be merged with Google calendars. Since many users utilize both Microsoft and Google calendars independently, this may cause some duplicate events resulting in some required cleanup. However, your Microsoft calendar will remain as-is and will be accessible by visiting Office.com in your web browser.
Your Gmail account will begin receiving new mail on December 28, 2023. On this date, new mail will begin arriving in your Gmail inbox and will subsequently stop arriving in your Microsoft mailbox.
Please note that you may go ahead and configure your mobile device for use with Gmail anytime from now until the migration is complete by following the instructions outlined here.
